Patna: The Centre has agreed to pump in Rs 200 crore to improve the fisheries sector.
The fund is part of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's special package worth Rs 1.25 lakh crore that he had announced for Bihar ahead of the 2015 Assembly elections.
"We will send a detailed project report (DPR) to the Centre for final approval after which the money is likely to be released to the state. This DPR has been prepared after the Centre made it clear that the PM's package money would be provided under the ongoing schemes in which the state too would have to provide its own share," an official in the state fisheries directorate told The Telegraph.
Bihar wanted to get Rs 200 crore as grant-in-aid but the Centre clarified that the money would be given for ongoing schemes only. "We have prepared a DPR of Rs 528 crore of which the Centre has to provide Rs 200 crore. The rest will be mobilised by the state," said the official. The report will be sent in a fortnight.
The funds will help set up diagnostic labs in Patna and the nine divisional headquarters to ensure quality seeds, hatcheries to prepare fish seeds, and renovate ponds and low-lying areas.
"Implementation of projects that have a Rs 200 crore central share will help us realise the goal of ushering in blue revolution in the state," the official said.
