Patna, Aug. 30: Former Bihar State Electricity Board (BSEB) chairman Swapan Mukherjee has refuted reports that there was any case against him related to monetary defalcation.

“The vigilance case initiated against me and other five senior officials of BSEB was quashed by Patna High Court. The court, while considering the FIR of the vigilance of BSEB, was pleased to quash the FIR after a well-reasoned judgment by the division bench. The honourable high court has held that the FIR was lodged against the persons in the most ‘unfair (manner) and was instituted with misconception and malice”’, Mukherjee said in a written communication to The Telegraph.

Mukherjee was responding to the report “Bad boy image hurts senior Bihar cop” published in The Telegraph on August 26. He said the FIR which was quashed was related to a voluntary disclosure scheme introduced during his tenure to mop-up additional revenue for the board.

Mukherjee expressed surprise over reports that his name is being linked to the bypassing of a senior IPS official for the post of director-general of police.

“The decision to make Abhayanand the DGP was taken by the departmental establishment committee of the state. The establishment committee takes its decisions after considering all prescribed norms and rules to determine the posting (which) is of such vital significance in the state,” he said.

Mukherjee said when he was elevated to the post of chairman of BSEB, it was after careful consideration of his service records, including the integrity and technical efficiency in the power sector.
