Patna, Feb. 24: Birla Institute of Technology (BIT), Patna, as a part of tech fest Technika, would host a series of programmes for students of the institute and from outside.

Among the various programmes, Innovations Challenge and Social Entrepreneurship would be something to look forward to.

Technika, which is scheduled from March 3 to 6, is one of the biggest technical fests in eastern India. It is a mixture of technical expertise and managerial proficiency.

Zeya Ahmad, a BIT student, said: “Innovations challenge is an initiative by Technika 2012 where the basic idea is to promote innovation among students.”

Once an innovation grabs the winning trophy, the participant would be sent for interships abroad.

Students with innovative ideas, which may range from homemade vehicles, pair of glasses, exciting design for a house, a new way of calculating, learning languages to a radical new green energy solution, can participate in the competition.

The competition is open for all and participants have to register with Technika through the website, www.technika.in/innovations.

People can submit their ideas with a 100-word synopsis. Technika will upload all the papers received before the deadline on the tech fest website and ask for votes from the public for the same.

At the commencement of the fest, the most number of votes would finalise the best two participants and they will be declared first and second winners. They will get an opportunity to intern with Association Internationale des Etudiants en Sciences Economiques et Commerciales (AIESEC).

Ahmad said: “AIESEC is a global youth organisation that develops leadership capabilities through their internal programmes, engaging students in exchange and internship programmes.” The AIESEC office is based in Rotterdam, the Netherlands.

Apart from innovation challenge programmes, the fest will also have events on social entrepreneurship.

Interested participants can upload their idea about social entrepreneurship in 100 words at www.technika.in/sociale. The themes will be education, urban waste management and others. Entries will be put on the Internet for voting. The most popular idea will win a chance to intern abroad in organisations like Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.

The last date for submitting entries is February 29.
