The Ganga will look cleaner from this year.
The Patna Municipal Corporation has tied up with Cleantec Infra Private Ltd to clean the Ganga along 14 ghats under the Centre's Integrated Ganga Conservation Mission.
While the private agency has to remove the trash from the river with the help of high-end machines and dump it at a designated place (near Gai Ghat), the PMC has to take care of proper disposal of the trash. The PMC has to finally dump the trash at Ramchak Bairiya.
PMC commissioner Abhishek Singh said the private firm had already commissioned its work from January 2.
"The private firm has to collect trash from the river water for three years. The project cost is around Rs 6.5 crore which has been provided by the Centre. The firm has brought a trash skimmer machine through which it is collecting filth from the river," said Singh.
Pawan Kumar Singh, the programme manager of Cleantec Infra Pvt Ltd., said the machine has been imported from US and it has a capacity to collect 13 cubic metres of trash in one go.
