Police hope to unearth details of international arms smuggling racket with the arrest of a local mastermind of the gang on Monday.
The police found an Austrian Glock pistol, a French pistol, several Naxalite literatures during a raid in Nauagadhi More on NH-80 on July 26, 2012. Two persons were arrested then. However, prime suspect Kundan Mandal managed to escape.
According to Munger superintendent of police P. Kannan, a joint team of police and STF managed to arrest Kundan in Tinbatiya Chowk near his native place Muzaffarganj under Haveli Kharaghpur police station in the district.
The men in uniform recovered one Munger-made pistol and two live cartridges from his possession. Kundan was wanted mainly in the recovery of the Glock pistol case (N0. 93/12 Naya Ramnagar police station).
Kannan, however, refused to give any details about Kundan’s statement.
Kundan was forwarded to jail but Munger police are trying to take him on remand for more interrogation. “Kundan’s brother Chandan Mandal is also an active arms smuggler and wanted since long. But we hope after Kundan’s arrest, Chandan will soon be picked up,” said Rajiv Kumar, the SHO of Haveli Kharaghpur police station.
