Muzaffarpur Institute of Technology (MIT) has been caught in an unprecedented impasse with students refusing to sit for exams at a centre known for strict invigilation.

The students even boycotted the sixth-semester papers at the exam centre, Langat Singh College, on Saturday despite requests by MIT teachers, including principal Arun Kumar Nathani. In fact, Langat Singh College principal-in-charge Tribhuvan Prasad Singh also persuaded the examinees but in vain.

The examinees are demanding change in the examination centre from Langat Singh College to somewhere else. Prashant Kumar, a student of civil engineering, said the invigilators harassed the examinees on flimsy grounds.

Refuting the allegations of students, Tribhuvan told The Telegraph that the engineering students are not being allowed to adopt unfair means.

“It is suspected that the examinees intend to seek some liberty of exchanging views, sharing answers with other examinees and above all indulging into unfair means. There is ample fans and availability of pure drinking water. These are baseless allegations to fulfil the demands of change of examination centre,” he said. Tribhuvan added: “I have already sent a detailed report to the vice chancellor of Aryabhatta Knowledge University and the MIT principal about the sixth-semester exam paper boycott.”

MIT principal Nathani said the AKU VC would take a call on changing the centre, if any. “It is very difficult to conduct examination of boycotted papers. The university will now seek the permission of the governor for conducting examination of the papers,” he added.
