Entries invited for disaster force

Patna, April 28: The state government has invited applications from retired military forces (former army and navy officers) to induct them in the State Disaster Response Force for disaster management.

It is working out the details for raising the quick response team in the state.

Addressing a workshop on “Preparedness and response for emergencies at the time of natural disasters”, principal secretary, State Disaster Management Authority, Vyasji, made this announcement. Corporate Disaster Resource Network had organised the workshop.

Vyasji said: “Following the concept of district disaster response force of the Union government, the state government also wishes to raise a battalion, which would take instant initiative on the disaster spot. For this, we prefer former army and navy officials, but this process would take time. Right now, we are inviting applications and then we would train the battalion accordingly.”

J.K. Sinha, member, National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), said: “For identification of the typology of the buildings, NDMA is working with the experts of all the IITs to find what kind of building under which zone would be prone to disasters.” Sinha said the team has been given three mon ths schedule for this purpose.
