| Residents block National Highway-28(A) on Friday after a 11000-volt high-tension wire came in contact with a gas tanker killing its driver in Raxaul on Thursday night. The internationally important Delhi-Kathmandu highway was blocked for several hours. The incident occurred near Pankaj Talkies in Koeria Tola. The tanker coming from Nepal lost balance because of the pot-holed road and subsequently came in contact with the wire, killing driver Kalu Miya. His assistant managed to survive by jumping from the vehicle. According to social activist Anil Sinha, around 6km of the highway between Gamhariya Chowk and the customs check post in Raxaul is accident-prone because of bad condition of the road. “Heavy vehicles often lose balance and come in contact with the high tension wires or overturn,” he said. The DM said: “I have spoken to the secretary of the department concerned in this regard. He has assured funds sanction to improve the roads.” Text by RN Sinha, picture by Jai Prakash |
