Patna, June 27: The enforcement directorate (ED) has asked for jailed MLA Anant Singh's criminal antecedents to build a case of money laundering and illegally accumulating property against the don-turned-politician.

Patna zonal inspector-general of police Kundan Krishnan said today that a letter from the directorate had reached the headquarters. "We have received a letter from the ED and they have asked us to provide them the criminal history of Anant. The police are cooperating with them. At this moment, I cannot say whether the ED has lodged any case against Anant or not," he said.

Sources in the ED told The Telegraph that after the police initiated investigations against him, the directorate was in the process of lodging a case against the MLA too. "The ED strongly suspects the involvement of Anant is cases related to money laundering and illegally accumulating property. The investigations in connection to this are on and a case is being built up against him," an officer at the directorate said, requesting anonymity.

Today, the police procured the production warrant from Patna civil court against Anant. A production warrant is an order issued by the court to produce a person before the court in connection with criminal proceedings pending against him.

"The DNA samples of the parents of Putus Yadav, the youth who was killed in the Barh abduction and murder case, has been collected by the forensic science team today. They will be sent for matching with the blood samples seized from the residence of Anant. All the forensic evidences are being sent to Centre for DNA Fingerprinting and Diagnostics, Hyderabad. Also, the statement of complainant was recorded under Section 164 of the CrPC at Barh court today," Patna senior superintendent of police (SSP) Vikas Vaibhav added.

Last evening, a police team picked up Kartik Singh and three others from Patna Central mall. Kartik, a close associate of Anant, looks after all the MLA's financial matters, police sources said.

SSP Vaibhav said the ED was investigating matters related to Anant.

"The ED is amid investigations and the police are providing support and help to them. Kartik and three others had been arrested yesterday in connection with the violence, which had taken place at Barh on June 25 by supporters of the MLA. Raids to catch hold of all those involved in the violent act is still on and the police and special task force (STF) are holding continuous raids upon information and tip-offs. Raids were carried out today also and the same will continue," he added.

Anant was sent to 14 days' judicial custody on June 24 in connection with an abduction case lodged at Bihta police station in November last year.

The police sources said Anant was involved in 25 cases till now.
