DTH freebies light up Diwali sky

Patna, Nov. 2: If you are fed up with constant disruptive cable connection or poor picture and sound quality, it’s time to upgrade to direct-to-home (DTH) services.

DTH companies have drastically slashed their prices to boost sales.

It’s Diwali and every company, is offering something to the customers to cash in on the festive craze. Even DTH service providers have jumped on to the bandwagon to grab a share of the festive electronics sales pie. Almost all big players in DTH services such as Tata Sky, Dish TV, Reliance, Videocon, Airtel and others are fighting it out to capture the market. These providers are offering DTH services within Rs 1,000 along with a slew of benefits such as free installation and free bouquet of channels for one to three months. Tata Sky and Airtel are offering its services at Rs 999 with free installation charges apart from providing monthly subscription at low rates.

“Airtel has also launched a limited period offer till Dhanteras for Rs 1,190 which offers installation and two months’ subscription (for 146 channels) of Rs 442 absolutely free,” said Hemendra Kumar, who owns Jayati Communication, deals in DTH services, on Boring Road.

Videocon, which is trying to make its presence felt in a fiercely competitive market, has come up with an offer of Rs 888 with an additional charge of Rs 300 for installation but the effective price comes down to just Rs 896 as it is offering one month’s diamond pack subscription worth Rs 292 for free.

Videocon has also come up with an aggressive pricing to promote its sales as it is offering DTH for just Rs 888. Kumar said with a recharge of Rs 400, one would get two months’ gold pack worth Rs 150 for free, adding that if one pays Rs 1,390 and recharges with Rs 300, the buyer can get enjoy the gold pack bouquet of channels for four months or a diamond pack for three months free.

Asked which DTH service is in demand, Kumar said: “Since Airtel and Videocon have slashed their prices drastically, people are opting for these two providers in large numbers.” However, Tata Sky, which is not offering much discount to its customers, has its own customer base.

Sujit Kumar Singh, a resident of Judges Colony, Danapur, who had come to buy a DTH connection, said: “There are so many offers from different providers that I am a bit confused. For me, the service is of paramount importance and so I will opt for an established brand in the market.”
