Patna: Additional municipal commissioner Uday Krishna, whose body was found on the tracks near Gulzarbagh railway station on Wednesday morning, had visited the Patna Municipal Commission office on Tuesday. He left office at 6pm after attending the PMC standing committee meeting.
According to his family members, Uday left his house at Patrakar Nagar on Tuesday post-dinner around 9.30pm after he received a phone call. He had told his family members that he would return soon. When he did not return, the family searched for him and filed a police complaint.
On Wednesday morning, his body was recovered from the tracks near Gulzarbagh railway station, around 2km from his house.
At the PMC, he was looking after central government schemes that the civic body is implementing.
However, for the last 15 days he was not given any work, said sources in the civic body. The work he used to look after was assigned to other officials.
The lack of work for Uday, the sources said, started after the exit of the earlier municipal commissioner, Keshav Ranjan Prasad.
Uday was also suffering from depression and undergoing treatment.
Uday's younger brother, advocate Abhay Krishna, said: "My brother was suffering from depression for the past few months due to work pressure at his office, but he was not so weak that he would have committed suicide.
"My brother was to retire in two months, but for past few months he was depressed. The family members had even asked him to take VRS (voluntary retirement scheme) as only two months were left for his retirement."
Uday was transferred to Patna from Motihari two years ago. He was looking after the implementation of central government schemes.
A senior official at the PMC said under cover of anonymity that Uday was lately disinterested at work.
"The previous municipal commissioner, Keshav Ranjan Prasad, was Uday's batch mate and Uday used to get work. But after the exit of Keshav Ranjan neither was Uday given any work nor was he much interested in discharging his duties."
On June 12, Anupam Kumar Suman took charge as the city's new municipal commissioner.
Uday's neighbours remembered him as a genial person.
"He was very helpful and was always ready to help people," said a neighbour.
Uday is survived by his wife, his son Raunak who is working as an engineer at a multinational company in Calcutta, and his daughter Nupur who after completing her fashion designing course from the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) was to join an institute in Pune on Tuesday.
Raunak reached Patna on Wednesday afternoon. Nupur is expected to reach Patna on Thursday.
