Patna, Sept. 29: Jagdamba Devi is shocked to see husband Dinanath Tiwary’s name in the FIR filed by a Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC) official for setting ablaze his official car and indulging in the September 26 Bhagwat Nagar violence.

“My husband died on December 25, 2003. How can his name figure in the FIR? Do the PMC and the police want to say he sprung out of his ashes and torched a car?” asked Jagdamba, whose house is located at plot number 237 of Bhagwat Nagar, the epicentre of the violence.

Dinanath was among the group of rowdies, who had on September 26 burnt down an Ambassador belonging to a senior PMC officer, according to the FIR lodged by a corporation official at the Agamkuan police station. Bhagwat Nagar residents had then thwarted the administration’s demolition drive twice as the Supreme Court’s deadline to remove encroachers from the Finance Co-operation House Construction Committee’s land ended.

The FIR has names of 131 people, including that of Sita Devi who died on October 27 two years ago. Her husband, Jaleshwar Prasad, is also dead and their son, Gangadhar Pandey, now lives in their house.

Similar is the situation when it comes to Deep Narayan Ambasta, who died of a cardiac arrest in 2005 when the police visited the household in connection with the same issue. The family has rented their house, located on plot number 205 since then, and has shifted to the Kazipur area of Patna. “There are at least eight dead persons whose names figure in the FIR. The PMC has insulted their families,” Saroj Kant Tripathy, the president of the Adarsh, Bhagwat, Jai Prakash Nagar Makaan Bachao Sangharsh Morcha, told The Telegraph today.

“It is just not about the dead people alone. There are several who are old and infirm,” he added.

Sharvan Thakur is one among them. The 90-year-old resident of the colony is among those accused of torching the vehicle. “I can hardly walk now and need the help of my family members even to go to the toilet. I don’t know what has happened,” he told The Telegraph.
