Patna, May 11: Slogans of “Delhi Chalo” are going to rent the political atmosphere of Bihar within a couple of months.
A JD(U) source today said a massive rally would be held at Ramlila Maidan in the national capital by the end of this year, probably by October when north Bihar is free from floods, to reassert the state’s demand for a special status.
“We will fill up every inch of Ramlila Maidan with Biharis. Trains and buses bound for Delhi will be packed with people from Bihar,” a senior JD(U) leader said.
Chief minister Nitish Kumar has already hinted during his Seva Yatra in Supaul that a rally would be held at Ramlila Maidan.
While preparations for the proposed rally are in a preliminary stage, sources close to the chief minister said he wanted an all-JD(U) show and was unwilling to share the stage with ally BJP.
During its Begusarai meeting recently, the BJP’s working committee resolved to hold dharnas in every district seeking special status to Bihar. However, the JD(U) might make the issue a “solo plank” for the 2014 Lok Sabha elections.
“The JD(U) has made special status a public issue. We gathered 1.25 crore signatures in favour of the special status to Bihar,” a JD(U) MP said, insisting that “other parties have given only lip service to the cause”.
