Patna: The ruling Janata Dal United on Wednesday accused the Opposition Rashtriya Janata Dal's leaders of instigating the mob that paraded a 50-year-old Dalit woman naked in Bhojpur's Bihiya on Monday after the death of a teenaged boy.
The state government has drawn flak over the failure of law and order in the incident, and JDU spokespersons Ajay Alok and Sanjay Singh sought to deflect the heat and blamed the Opposition.
"The Bihiya incident was RJD-sponsored and one of the persons arrested in the case is Kaushal Kishore Yadav who is an RJD leader. I have proof," said Sanjay.
He showed a photograph of the Bihiya incident in which, Sanjay alleged, Kaushal can be seen as part of the mob. Sanjay also showed Kaushal's purported picture at an RJD event to prove that the person was indeed associated with the Opposition party.
The Telegraph cannot vouch for the authenticity of any of the photographs, but Bihiya residents had alleged that Kaushal was leading the group that disrobed the woman and then engaged in arson in the red light area near the railway tracks where the boy's body was found.
So far, 15 persons have been arrested - including Kaushal - and disciplinary action has been taken against eight police personnel in the case.
Sanjay said RJD leaders are trying to malign the name of Bihar, and alleged that leader of Opposition Tejashwi Prasad Yadav's only agenda is to defame chief minister Nitish Kumar.
The former MLC also said that the Bihiya incident is reminiscent of the 15 years of "jungle raj" of Lalu Prasad and Rabri Devi.
Ajay Alok claimed that the RJD is behind all incidents related to law and order in recent months in Bihar.
"In the last four or five months there have been many mob-related incidents. In every incident RJD leaders are involved," Alok claimed. "It has never happened in the RJD regime that the top leader of the RJD is sending a message across the state to create law and order problems; that is what is happening now in the leadership of Tejashwi Prasad Yadav."
Alok claimed that in the Bihiya episode the mob was instigated and a law and order situation was created by the RJD in a planned way.
The JDU spokesperson declared that the RJD should be rename Rashtriya Jatna Chitkar (torture scream) Dal because the party enjoys when people land in trouble.
Reacting to the JDU allegations, Tejashwi said: "If the contractual JDU spokespersons are saying that RJD leaders are involved, who has stopped Nitish Kumar from taking action? Hang them till death. I am not like Nitishji who is trying his level best to save Brajesh Thakur and the ministers involved in the Muzaffarpur shelter home case."
