The wait for the Rukmani Buildtech Social Premier League is finally over.
Starting Friday, eight premier educational institutions will clash against their opponent teams to promote social cause.
Since the tournament’s motto is to promote social causes, 15 members of Lalit Narayan Mishra Institute of Economic Development and Social Change would take a pledge before their match that they would not accept any dowry in their marriages. The management institute would take up the social cause “dowry”.
Team captain Priyesh Kumar said: “We will take a pledge that we will not take dowry.” He added that a pledge against dowry assumes importance in Bihar because even well-educated people accept and give dowry in the state. According to the management graduate, if youngsters decide against dowry, then the social evil will be “automatically wiped out from society”.
Also, in the league will be Indian Institute of Management (IIM)-Ranchi students who will play their first match against National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), Patna, on Friday. The IIM-Ranchi has chosen “human trafficking” as their social cause.
Ravi Babu, the captain of IIM-Ranchi SPL team, said: “We have chosen human trafficking as social cause because its perils have spread far and wide.”
To spread awareness on human trafficking the IIM-Ranchi students will carry out a campaign in the tribal areas with the help of a non-government organisation.
“Through banners and posters we will highlight how the life of a child changes after they are rescued from the clutches of human traffickers.”
