Patna: Bihar director general of police (DGP) P.K. Thakur has assured family members of Jitendra Kumar Jha, who was reportedly kidnapped from Delhi on Monday, their cooperation with the Delhi police in probing the case.

DGP Thakur even spoke to his counterpart in New Delhi and inquired about the incident.

Jitendra went missing from the national capital on Monday, when he had gone out to take a morning walk. The Delhi police have failed to trace him even 48 hours after the incident.

Family members fear Jha might have been kidnapped as he was regarded as a no-nonsense officer in the department. "It was because of his hard work and strict action that he had become an eye sore for many officials of the department," said a close relative, speaking under the cover of anonymity.

Jitendra, a resident of Supaul district in Kosi region, was posted with the Union ministry of human resource development (HRD) in New Delhi.

His wife Bhawna Jha spoke to DGP Thakur over the phone on Wednesday and sought his intervention in tracing her husband, an Indian civil accounts service officer posted with the HRD, Government of India.

Bhawna told the police officials that her husband was depressed over his frequent transfers. Every six months he had been transferred from one department to another, causing much inconvenience to him and to the family as well, she said.

According to sources close to the family, Jha was earlier posted with the Union ministry of information and technology.

Close relatives said the Delhi police have obtained CCTV footage to trace Jha but in vain.

The CCTV footage showed Jha coming out of the building of the society around 9am.

The family members suspected foul play when Jha didn't return to his flat from morning walk.
