Each time murderers strike in Patna, police are found in the corridor of uncertainty.

The city witnessed six murders in the past two months. The police have managed to crack just one. There are either no breakthroughs or cops are “nearing” a solution in the rest of the cases.

The gruesome murder of a middle-aged couple at Mubarakpur under Sahpur police station on the outskirts of Patna late Saturday night have further nailed the police, who claimed to be “very near” in solving the murder cases of the head cashier at State Bank of India Patliputra branch, James Michael Dextus, and high court advocate Sangita Sinha earlier this month.

In the Mubarakpur case, Ashok Malviya (65) and his wife Savitri Devi (56), was found in a pool of blood with their throats slit on Sunday morning on the second floor of their residence.

Danapur deputy superintendent of police Sushant Kumar Saroj said there are no breakthroughs in the case yet.

“It is a blind case for the cops so far. Ashok used to run a small school in the same house and both their sons stayed in Patna. We are waiting for the post-mortem report. Two suitcases were left in such a manner that it appears to be a dacoity attempt. However, this does not seem to be a murder with an intention to loot. We have spoken to the family members and the tenants. They said their relations with them were good. Things will be clearer in a day or two. The case is being investigated,” he said.

Prior to this, the cops, who claimed to be “seriously” investigating the murder of lawyer Sangita Sinha (45), whose decomposing body was recovered from her flat at Buddha Marg-based Vaishav Apartments on June 20, still remains a mystery. Senior police officers said she was murdered because of personal enmity.

The case related to the killing of middle-aged Baleshwar Paswan in Pirdamaria area under Malsalami police station on June 15 is yet a mystery for the cops.

There are no leads even in the Dextus murder case, the cashier who was killed a day before Paswan was shot dead. Dextus was working in his cabin, when an assailant barged in and shot at him before fleeing. Cops claimed they were close to cracking this case too.

The murder (on May 7) case of liquor trader Saket Gupta is the only saving grace for the police. Another liquor trader Prem Singh plotted his murder.

Prem was killed two days later. The police are yet to crack the case.
