Patna, Aug. 1: The Gaya district magistrate, ex officio chairman of the Bodhgaya Temple Management Committee, allegedly skipped a meeting called by a DIG to review temple security just four days before the July 7 blasts.

Magadh range deputy inspector-general (DIG) Nayyar Hasnain Khan’s report to the state police headquarters on July 6 pinpoints the “lackadaisical attitude” of the committee, particularly Gaya district magistrate, for skipping the July 3 meeting. Senior police officers, the BTMC secretary, Intelligence Bureau, special branch and other administrative officers attended the meet. But with the DM failing to make it, no concrete decisions could be taken on police suggestions.

“Even in February (2013), the meeting on the same issue was held in the absence of the chairman of the committee,” the DIG’s report said.

Gaya sadar sub-divisional magistrate (SDM) Maqsood Alam denied having attended the July 3 meeting on district magistrate Balamurugan D’s behalf.

Balamurugan denied he skipped the meeting. He said he was out of town that day for some important work.
