Patna, Jan. 4: The popularity of Patna Police Youth Club has started to soar with manu people becoming its members to help the cops crack the rising incidents of crime.

Less than two months after Patna senior superintendent of police (SSP) Alok Kumar came up with the idea of the club, 820 people have become its members. All these men have joined hands with the policemen to drive away criminals from the state capital.

The Patna SSP wanted to recruit 10 men to each of the 82 quick mobile service teams that are posted at various police stations in the district. His aim was to rope in people into the club from the respective police patrolling areas. He had also decided to give special identity cards of the police to these 10 persons.

While addressing a gathering of the 820 members, Kumar today asked them to take up the responsibilities.

“Altogether 820 men from various areas of the state capital have been made a part of the Patna Police Youth Club. The police would give them special identity cards. These people would act as the link between the police and the people, thereby helping the cops to get a better understanding of law and order. The police would take necessary action on the basis of the information provided by the members,” he said.

The Patna Police Youth Club members would also help the police in controlling incidents such as mob violence.

“There are 82 areas or beats in Patna with a pair of quick mobile police posted in each area. The members of the club will be directly in contact with them around-the-clock. They will report to the police about any incident that can snowball into a major law-and-order problem. Through them, the cops will be able to know the intricate details and take necessary actions whenever required. They can also provide feedback to the cops about a particular case of their area and ensure that no innocent person is implicated in any case. The police, from the station house officer to the SSP, will be in touch with these men and will hear to their statements and arguments carefully and their words will hold a lot of value,” Alok Kumar said.

The officer added that the police would organise a convention every year and those who have done a good job would be rewarded.

“In addition to this, if anyone has done a gallant life-saving act, recommendations will be sent to the state government to give them public gallantry awards. The police will, however, keep an eye on their activities as well and ensure that they do not carry out any unlawful activity,” the SSP said, adding that the men have been selected after carefully checking their backgrounds.

Quick Mobile Service policemen were advised to select persons familiar with their particular area and be able to help the officers in any possible way. The members of the youth club are supposed to give policemen information about the criminals.
