| Students from Gyan Jyoti Public School, Mother India Mission School and Rajkiyakrit Balak Madhya Vidyalaya celebrate Earth Day, organised by non-government organisation Tarumitra on Friday. Founder of Tarumitra Father Robert said: “Though Earth Day is celebrated on April 22 every year, we decided to celebrate the day a little early. It would have been difficult for students to come on the scheduled date because of the heat.” The students were shown slides on nature conservation through a PowerPoint presentation made by the organisation’s employee, Kanchan Pathak. “Environment conservation is an important issue that needs to be addressed because according to scientists, our nature is at peril. We are devastating our surroundings and this would culminate into drastic changes and problems in future. So, every person should take measures to conserve the environment,” he said. Tarumitra also observed the 51st anniversary of the book, Silent Spring. As a tribute, the big Kamrup tree on the organisation’s campus was named after the author of the book, Rachel Carson.
