Patna, May 6: Prohibitory orders have been promulgated in Aurangabad in the wake of tension prevailing between two communities following a violent clash on Thursday.
Additional police forces have been requisitioned from Rohtas and Gaya to maintain law and order.
Aurangabad district magistrate Abhay Kumar Singh said processions and congregation of people at a particular place in urban areas have been banned under Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code. The security personnel staged flag marches on the main thoroughfares of the town to instil confidence among the residents, he added.
He said the entire town has been divided into sectors and magistrates deployed to keep the troublemakers at bay. People have been advised not to be swayed by rumours and all precautionary measures have been taken to ensure safety and security to the life and property of the people. “The situation is tense but under control,” he said.
Deputy inspector-general (DIG), Magadh range, who is camping at Aurangabad since Thursday, told The Telegraph that additional security forces from neighbouring Gaya and Rohtas have been requisitioned in the wake of tension in the town. The Bihar Military Police personnel have also been deployed as a precautionary measure.
The trouble started on Thursday, when some shopkeepers thrashed a woman belonging to a particular community. When the woman, said to be a resident of Rajpur police station area, complained, a group of people reached the Madarsa market and assaulted the shopkeepers.
The situation turned worse when the police picked up some agitators, who were demanding arrest of the culprits involved in thrashing the woman.
Entire Aurangabad town has turned into a fortress with security personnel deputed on every nook and corner. “We are vigilant and keeping a close watch on the situation,” Aurangabad superintendent of police Vivek Raj Singh said.
On Friday morning, the people gathered at Ramesh Chowk, took out processions, vandalised business establishments and shouted slogans against the district police and administrative officials.
