Patna: Chief minister Nitish Kumar on Tuesday flew to New Delhi, where he will lay the foundation stone of a swanky Bihar Sadan on Wednesday.
The much-awaited building will come up in Dwarka at a cost of Rs 79 crore and provide staying space for visitors from Bihar, including the governor, chief minister, legislators, judges, officials and the common people.
Building construction department (BCD) minister Maheshwar Hazari and principal secretary Chanchal Kumar will be present during the foundation-laying ceremony at Sector-19 in Dwarka, near ITC Welcome Hotel.
"This will be a G+10 (ground floor plus 10 floors) building, which is being constructed by our department. It will be a modern green building in which solar energy will be used sufficiently," Hazari said. He added that the Bihar Sadan will be spread over 2 acres but the construction will be done only on one-third of it. The remaining space will be converted into a garden.
The Bihar Sadan will have 100 rooms in the first phase of the construction and more rooms could be added later. It will remove the space crunch being suffered by legislators, officials and common people for whom only Bihar Bhawan and Bihar Nivas are available in Delhi to offer guest house and liaisoning centre facilities.
Adya Constructions - a Bihar-based infrastructure company - has been selected by the BCD through e-tender to build the facility. "We are aiming to complete the construction work within two years. Once operational, bookings for the Bihar Sadan will be taken care by the cabinet secretariat department," Hazari added.
Sources said the Sadan will have two VVIP suites, one for the governor and another for the chief minister, six VIP suites for cabinet ministers, 100 double rooms, a dormitory that will have 30 beds and 10 single rooms for security personnel.
