Bagaha, Jan. 30: A police sub-inspector, Vishwanath Prasad, posted at Piprasi police station in Bagaha district, died under mysterious circumstances in Dumawalia locality late on Saturday night.
Prasad had put up at the house of one of his acquaintance while returning from Bettiah, where he had gone to attend a review meeting convened by the district inspector-general (DIG) of police, Champaran range on Saturday.
According to reports, Prasad arrived there around 7pm while coming back from Bettiah. He went to the residence of Sant Choudhary, an old acquaintance. He stayed on at his house after dinner, instead of going back to Piprasi. During his last posting at Patkhauli police outpost for the past six months, the sub-inspector had been close to that family and was a regular to the house.
According to the police, after a complaint of distension of abdomen, Prasad started frothing from the mouth. The family members then apprised the police. The police arrived there and took Prasad to the sub-divisional hospital, where during treatment he died.
The superintendent of police, Bagaha, Sidharth Mohan Jain, has confirmed the incident. He said that considering the circumstances under which the sub-inspector died, the police were not ready to accept the death as normal.
Jain told The Telegraph that after preserving the viscera of the sub-inspector, the police have started investigation in the matter. Two persons were arrested in connection to the incident, he added.
