Darbhanga, Aug. 2: Darbhanga Municipal Corporation (DMC) will keep a close eye on A2Z Infrastructure Private Limited, the agency assigned the task to cart away garbage from different parts of the town, to ensure that the sanitation work is done hassle-free.

The DMC has appointed the Gurgaon-based private agency to clean 16 out of 48 wards in the town. It will start work from August 4.

Mayor Ajay Paswan told The Telegraph: “Initially, A2Z Infrastructure Private Limited has been assigned to clean 16 wards which comprise the most populous and commercial areas of the town. Later, if its performance is satisfactory, it would be given the duty of the entire town. We will keep tabs on the services provided by the agency so that the problems that have occurred in Patna are not repeated here.”

Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC) had appointed A2Z Infrastructure Private Limited to carry out cleanliness work in different parts of the state capital. They, however, suspended their services on July 21 this year after the civic body failed to clear its bills. PMC officers claim that the bills were full of irregularities.

The private agency, too, seems keen on making a fresh start in Darbhanga.

The deputy general manager of A2Z Infrastructure Private Limited, Vikas Kumar Jha, told The Telegraph: “Around 140 workers have already been sent to Darbhanga along with 100 carts, two compactors, 11 other vehicles and 100 bins. Depending on the kind, each bin will contain around 350kg of waste. Sixty more workers will arrive in Darbhanga soon.”

Paswan said: “We have formed a seven-member committee, led by deputy mayor Bajruzama Khan, to look for land that can be used as a permanent dumping ground by the private agency. The other members of the committee are ward councillors Lakshmi Narayan Sah, Ramesh Jha, Hasan Imam and Archana Chaudhary and DMC deputy commissioner Dayashankar Bahadur, assistant municipal engineer Saud Alam, and officer of the civic body Arvind Kumar.”

He added: “The committee is likely to report on its find within a week. The land would be purchased by the end of this month after the completion of the procedure with landowners. It will be handed over to A2Z Infrastructure Private Limited after that.”

Sources said DMC needs around eight acres of land for the permanent dumping ground. The site should also be on the outskirts of the city so that the garbage could be carted away easily.

Till the site is finalised, the private agency will dump the garbage they collect at a temporary dumping site near the DMC godown.

A source: “The agency will start work in five wards — 10, 20, 21, 22 and 47 — in the first phase. It will cover other wards gradually.”
