Children's creative day out

Two schools organised competitions such as making rangolis, diyas and gharondas on their premises, while a non-government organisation celebrated Children’s Day. Faryal Rumi reports

Jesus and Mary Academy
Event: Gharonda and diya-making competition
Duration: Two hours
Special attraction: The school ushered in Diwali and Chhath festivities by organisisng diya decoration, candle-and gharonda-making competitions on its premises. The myriad colours of the diyas and candle designs gave the school foyer a festive look. Students enthusiastically took part in the competitions. The entire area was decorated with diyas which were designed with rangolis around them. The entire area was decorated in a similar fashion. Students from all classes participated in the competitions and were lauded for their efforts by everyone for the sheer spread of beauty all around.

 

Ashwini Public School
Event: Rangoli-making competition
Duration: Three hours
Special attraction: A rangoli and diya-making competition was organised on the school premises to celebrate Diwali and Chhath. A number of students took part in the event and were categorised in four different groups for each competitions. The school in-charge, Dhananjya Kumar Singh, said: “By organising such competitions, students are introduced to the cultural aspects of our society. At the same time, skills of creativity and art innovation can be developed.” The students made rangoli designs using geometric shapes, deity impressions and floral motifs.

Children’s Day
Duration: Four hours
Special attraction: Children’s Day was celebrated with great pomp and show on the Samiti premises at Sardar Patel Colony to pay tribute to Jawaharlal Nehru, the country’s first Prime Minister. Anand Kumar, the founder of Super-30 coaching institute, was the chief guest. The secretary of the Samiti organised a magic show for 
underprivileged kids that lasted for an hour. Around 150 students between the age group of 3-8 years attended the programme with their parents. Later, a prayer was also conducted.
