Patna, June 6: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has proposed a peer assessor team (PAT) for all its schools to carry out external evaluation of infrastructure and academic activities of other institutes.

The team would conduct case studies on a school and send a report to the CBSE regional officer.

However, it has not been decided how many members would be in the team.

"It will be mandatory for each school to have a PAT. The schools affiliated with the Board would be assessed through standardised instruments and processes of internal (self-evaluation) and external assessment (peer review), which would encourage sustained qualitative enhancement," added Kaur.

An application form is provided on the CBSE website. The form consists of a section, where the candidate needs to write in 100 words why being a peer assessor is important.

"The CBSE has specified that peer assessors shall develop interesting and interactive ways to deal with students and make them comfortable so that they share their problems faced on the campus or elsewhere. Peer assessors would constitute principals (working or retired) or educators with experience and rich insight in school education processes," said Arvind Kumar, assistant secretary, CBSE.

C.B. Singh, the secretary of Patliputra CBSE Sahodaya, talked about advantages of implementation of assessor team in each school.

"The CBSE headquarters will decide which school PAT would evaluate another institution . The case study report would be delivered to regional officers for processing," he said.

He added: "Evaluation of schools to give them permanent accreditation and make the selection process transparent is a pilot project of the CBSE. The main advantage of PAT is that all information would be given to the headquarters in an informal way."

Principals welcomed the new proposal of the CBSE.

Anita Choudhary, principal, The Tribhuvan School, said: "I think it would be a great move. We should be open for feedback and learn about infrastructure and curriculum. We would be able to give instruction to other schools to improve their academics."
