The Central Board of Secondary Education has launched an online tool to help schools identify areas they can improve and parents to determine their wards’ progress over the years.
Saransh, the online facility, allows schools log in with a user ID and password to access relevant information. The facility was launched around last week.
With it, schools can access the performance of Class X and Class XII students since 2007 and 2009, respectively.
“Saransh is a comprehensive self-review tool for schools affiliated to the board. It is created to help schools diagnose the scope of improvement in students, teachers and subjects,” said Rama Sharma, public relations officer, CBSE, New Delhi.
To make the reports more interactive, the performance metrics are presented through numbers. Charts and graphs are also used.
“This initiative will help in comparative analysis of the quality of education of each subject and the performance of the students. We, too, have records on file but this is quite convenient. The information is just a click away,” said S.P. Singh, principal, Patna Central School.
Anjali Singh, the mother of a Class X girl in DAV, BSEB, said: “We will have the handouts of the marks of the past seven years, which will help us encourage our wards score good marks.”
CBSE’s Sharma added: “Schools might have used various tools to identify what is working well and what needs to be improved. What is different about Saransh is the emphasis it places on using concrete evidence to fix problems, if any, in the teaching-learning experience.”
