Patna, July 24: The National Commission of Scheduled Castes has slammed the Nitish Kumar government holding it “solely responsible” for the death of 23 children at Gandaman Primary School in Chhapra last week.

Commission vice-chairman Raj Kumar Verka lashed out against the state government for not taking any action till now against those responsible for the monitoring of the Centre-sponsored scheme. “The food prepared in the government schools under the midday meal scheme is not checked and the officials concerned are not at all bothered. I had a meeting with some police officers and asked for an action-taken report within a week. The government is yet to act against the officials whose responsibility is to monitor the midday meal,” Verka said here today.
