NDRF helpline

• PATNA: The NDRF has released mobile numbers to contact in case of emergency. The number for the operational headquarters is 8544415049 and its control room can be contacted on 8544415050 and 9525752125. NDRF commandant Vijay Sinha said over 600 staff and 70 inflatable boats are on alert on the Ganga to prevent any mishap. He said a river ambulance was constantly patrolling the Ganga and providing first-aid to devotees who needed it. He said apart from 7 teams in Patna, the NDRF had one team each in Buxar, Supaul, Bhojpur, Motihari , Bettiah and Banka.

• PATNA: Dr Diwakar Tejashwi has been invited to participate in the World Hepatitis Summit being organised at Sao Paulo, Brazil, between November 1 and 3.

Charas seizure

• MOTIHARI: The Sashastra Seema Bal seized charas worth over Rs 3.10 crore from an area under the jurisdiction of Pantoka border outpost near Raxaul in East Champaran on Wednesday. The SSB also seized a motorbike abandoned near the international border.

Constable dies of injuries

• MOTIHARI: Constable Upendra Singh, who attempted suicide with his licensed weapon, succumbed to his injuries at Patna Medical College and Hospital on Tuesday night. Singh, who was posted at the Areraj police outpost, had shot himself on Monday.

Extortion cuffs

• MOTIHARI: Three criminals were arrested and an SUV seized when they were trying to extort money from residents near Raxaul on the India-Nepal border in East Champaran district on Wednesday. Police said the criminals were impersonating IAS officers.

Mahadharna plan

• PATNA: All India Trade Union Congress(Aituc) on Wednesday called upon labourers in Bihar to come to Delhi in thousands to make a mahadharna against the "anti-labour" Narendra Modi government a success. The mahadharna is scheduled from November 9 to 11.

Festival ready

• PATNA: Deputy chief minister Sushil Kumar modi claimed the NDA government had made elaborate arrangements for Chhath devotees. There had been cleaning up of ghats, lights had been provided and adequate security arrangements made. He said quite a few foreign visitors had arrived in Bihar to observe the state's biggest festival.

Engineer & mother killed

• HAJIPUR: An engineer and his mother were crushed to death near Subhai Chowk under Hajipur sadar police station in Vaishali district on Wednesday. Police said a truck hit Sunil Singh's motorbike as he was riding on the Hajipur-Mahua road with his ailing mother. Sunil worked as an engineer in the UAE and had come to his village for Chhath. Singh and his mother were returning from Patna when the accident happened.

Kidnap & murder

• CHHAPRA: Rivilganj police in Saran district arrested Anil Choudhary on Wednesday for allegedly kidnapping and murdering five-year-old Adarsh Kumar at Sitab Diara in the district. Rivilganj police station house officer Santosh Kumar said Adarsh was kidnapped on October 23 and murdered by Choudhary, who had been in a relationship with the boy's mother. An FIR was lodged against Choudhary based on the statement made by Adarsh's father.

Condolences

• PATNA: Governor Satya Pal Malik mourned the death of Union human resource development minister Prakash Javdekar's mother Rajni Javedkar. He also offered condolences on the death of classical singer Girija Devi. In a message to Girija Devi's daughter, Sudha Dutta, Malik said she had taken classical singing to new heights.
