Sushil attacks Nitish

Patna, Jan. 29: Senior BJP leader and former deputy chief minister Sushil Kumar Modi today slammed the state government for cutting down scholarship funds for students in order to pay school teachers' salaries. Modi said Rs 900 crore from the scholarship fund has been surrendered on chief minister Nitish Kumar's instruction to be utilised to pay teachers instead.

Sushil added that the state is suffering a financial crisis after losing Rs 5,000 crore in revenue due to prohibition.

GPS upgrade

Darbhanga: Vehicles used by 10 police stations in Darbhanga have been fitted with GPS equipment. Darbhanga senior superintendent of police Satyaveer Singh said on Sunday that the purpose behind the move was to keep a tab on the movement of police personnel. "The remaining police stations will also come under this system soon," said Satyaveer.

Patna: Bihar Pradesh Congress Committee observed the death anniversary of former Union minster and Congress leader Dumar Lal Baitha at its Sadaquat Ashram headquarters on Sunday.

Change jibe

Patna: Senior BJP leader Nand Kishore Yadav attacked chief minister Nitish Kumar over the alleged lack of law and order in the state on Sunday. He added that Nitish's Nischay Yatra is unlikely to bring about change.

Old notes FIR

Patna: An FIR was lodged against six officials of Madhya Bihar Grameen Bank at Model Police Station in Rohtas after scrapped currency notes worth Rs 1.19 crore went missing from the bank's chest earlier this month, a bank official said on Sunday. Rs 229 crore from 83 branches of Madhya Bihar Grameen Bank in scrapped notes were deposited at Sasaram main branch, but a difference of Rs 1.19 crore was found in the amount deposited with the RBI as per its receipt and the amount lying in the chest, bank's regional officer Ravindra Nath Trivedi said.

JDU slams BJP

Patna: JDU spokesperson Nikhil Mandal on Sunday slammed BJP state unit president Nityanand Rai for his comment about chief minister Nitish Kumar backing out of the UP election. Mandal said Rai does not have a political identity, and his comment was a call for attention.

Shots fired

Patna: Manoj Kumar and Nandlal Sao fired several shots into the air to terrorize people at Ashok Rajpath area on Sunday evening after a brawl with residents of the area. The incident occurred just 500m from Pirbahore police station. Police are conducting raids to nab the criminals.

Party meeting

Patna: The state unit president of Anusuchit Jati/Janjati Adhivakta Jan Kalyan Samiti, Sadanand Paswan, dissolved the state and district committee with immediate effect on Sunday.

Annual day

Patna: Jha Institute of Technology, Patna, celebrated their annual day event on Sunday at the people's co-operative community hall. A cultrual programme was also oganised.
