Nitish note on scribe

Patna: Chief minister Nitish Kumar on Sunday condoled the death of former Bihar information commissioner and senior journalist Farzand Ahmed, who died in Lucknow on Sunday morning.

In the press note issued by the chief minister's secretariat, Nitish said Ahmed's work will always be remembered and his death was a loss to journalism.

Kids dead

Patna: Three children died and four members of the family of Vashisht Chaudhary suffered injuries in a fire at a house in Bhusala Phulwari under Phulwarisharif police station. The injured were admitted to Patna Medical College and Hospital.

Cardiac arrest

Gopalganj: Constable Virendra Ojha died late on Saturday night on the way to Gorakhpur medical college. The deceased's family alleged that Virendra died of cardiac arrest following the an altercation with a sergeant major.

Gaya pitch

Gaya: The Gaya airport marketing department made a presentation at the World Routes 2016 programme at Chengdu, China, on how Gaya could connect Southeast Asian Buddhist nations.

Raid

Gaya: Police recovered nine quintals of marijuana during raids at NH 2 under the jurisdiction of Mufassil police station on Sunday. The team led by district superintendent of police P.N. Sahu arrested four people.

CBI probe

Gaya: A CBI team probing the murder of journalist Rajdev Ranjan arrived in Gaya on Sunday. The team is likely to interrogate Laddan Miyan, lodged in Gaya central jail.

Celebration

Patna: ASG Eye Hospital, Kankerbagh, oraganised a Sawaksha Bharat programme to celebrate Gandhi Jayanti on Sunday. Chairman of the Haj Committee, Chaudhary Mehbook Ali Kaiser, participated in a tree planting drive and inspected the hospital premises.

Seizure

Darbhanga: Police on Sunday seized around 1,140 liquor bottles that had been stored in 97 cartons at Partee Tola of Singhwara panchayat of the district. According to police, the bottles were stored in a pickup van parked on the road in front of one Pawan Kumar Yadav's house.

Boat capsize

Darbhanga, Oct. 2 (PTI): At least four persons, including two minors, died when a country boat capsized in the Kamla river near Koylajaan village in the district today. Biraul sub-divisional officer Mohammad Shafique said the boat was ferrying nearly 12 people when the vessel capsized due to heavy wind. At least four people are missing.

Awareness

Patna (PTI): JDU party workers took out prabhat pheris across municipal wards and panchayats in the state on Gandhi Jayanti to foster an atmosphere in favour of prohibition and spread awareness.
