Bandh glare

Patna: A high court single judge bench of Justice Rakesh Kumar on Tuesday expressed its displeasure over an affidavit filed by chief secretary in the case related to bandh call given by the RJD on July 27 in which the car of a sitting judge was stopped twice by the bandh supporters.

In its earlier directive, the court had directed the chief secretary to file an affidavit entailing how many arrests were made by the state government during the bandh and also what action the state has taken against the leaders involved in the hooliganism on the bandh day. The chief secretary was further directed to assess the loss suffered by the state due to the bandh. The affidavit filed by the chief secretary with regard to assessment of loss only centred around state capital Patna while the court has directed to assess the loss statewide. Principal additional advocate general Lalit Kishore sought time from the court for filing supplementary showcause.

HC order

Patna: A single judge bench of Justice A.K. Tripathi on Tuesday directed Patna Medical College principal to file reply in the case related to certain courses being offered at the medical college without such courses been given recognition. Dr Madhukar and others filed a petition alleging that few courses in the medical college including diploma in tuberculosis and chest diseases is being offered without the same being given recognition.

Highway block

Muzaffarpur: Vehicular movement on the Muzaffarpur-Sitamarhi highway (NH-77) remained paralysed for more than three hours on Tuesday to protest the death of a youth, Ram Babu, in electrocution. The protesting residents of Sri Krishna Nagar village were demanding action against power officials.

Patna: East Central Railway Sonepur division in August raised Rs 90 lakh through penalty during special drive to detain passengers travelling without valid tickets.

Jute centre

Calcutta (PTI): In order to help artisans and women self-help groups engaged in jute production, the Union ministry of textiles launched common facility centres scheme. Under phase-I, the ministry would set up three centres in Bengal and one each in Assam and Bihar.
