Sushil funds jab

Patna: BJP leader and former deputy chief minister Sushil Kumar Modi on Monday said while the state government was blaming the Centre for cutting its plan size, it had failed to utilise central funds worth Rs 12,273 crore in 2014-15 because of poor financial management.

He claimed the government has also failed to utilise around Rs 2,000 crore of central assistance under the 13thFinance Commission. Loose monetary policy in 2014-15 led to the government's performance being one of the worst in revenue collection in the past 10 years, Modi added.

Literary push

Patna: Bihar Hindi Sahitya Sammelan spokesperson Ajay Kumar on Monday requested Governor Keshari Nath Tripathi and chief minister Nitish Kumar to intervene to improve the organisation's functioning. He hoped the Sammelan would be able to resume literary activities under president Anil Sulabh.

Kabar lake

Patna: Aam Aadmi Party leader Parveen Amanullah on Mondayasked the government to take action at the Kabar lake, one of the protected bird sanctuaries of Bihar, in Begusarai. Amanullah said Wetlands International, a Delhi-based organisation, has recommended community activities in the lake area.

Demise

Patna: R.C. Sinha, a renowned geologist and retired head of department at Patna Science College, passed away in Patna on May 28. The shradh ceremony is on Tuesday. A former chairman of Bihar State Intermediate Council, Sinha had the distinction of being the first geologist in India to have a doctorate in geochemistry. He is survived by two sons and three daughters.

Patna: East Central Railway would observe Level Crossing Awareness Week till June 5 to create consciousness among the people about accidents at railway crossings. It started on Monday. June 3 will be celebrated as International Level Crossing Awareness Day.

Truck crushes 3 kids

Purnea, June 1: Two children today died and many others injured after a sand-loaded truck overturned on children playing at Goriyar village under Tikkapatti police station, about 350km northeast of Patna.

Villagers are striving hard to find out whether any other children are trapped under the vehicle.

Bettiah: Rs 2.5 lakh was looted from an employee of a Bettiah trader near Purnahiya village under Balthar police station late on Sunday evening when he was returning from Sikta.

Book launch

Patna: Razi Ahmed, the general secretary of Gandhi Sangrahalaya, released Mujhe bolne do se mujhe chup rehne do tak, the biography of late Urdu writer and columnist Rizwan Ahmad on his fourth death anniversary at Bihar Urdu Academy. Ahmad had authored 10 books on different topics, including Urdu adab (Urdu literature).

Death

Siwan: Ravindra Singh, a resident of Malik Tola under Barharia police station, was beaten to death on Monday morning over a land dispute. Accused Mohan Singh and others are absconding.

Sub-treasury

Motihari: A sub-treasury started functioning in Dhaka, the headquarters of Sikrahna sub-division, in East Champaran district on Monday. This office was inaugurated by district magistrate Jitendra Shivastava and MLA Pawan Jaiswal. This is the first sub-treasury in the district from where, instead of Motihari, financial businesses related to Sikrahna, Chiraiya, Ghorasan, Patahi and Bankaywa blocks would be conducted.

Rebel attack

Sheohar: Suspected Maoists attacked a brick kiln unit at Purnahiya in Sheohar district late on Sunday night and fired at an accounts clerk. The victim, Ramesh Ram, has been admitted to Sitamarhi Sadar hospital. #

Homecoming

Gaya: Police have left for Amritsar on Sunday to bring back home Mandar Manjhi who has recently been released by the Pakistan government. Mandar, son of Bansi manjhi of Noni village under Takari block had been lodged in a Pakistan jail.

Passport kiosk

Patna: The ministry of external affairs has approved the proposal for setting up an additional service centre at Darbhanga in north Bihar to accept passport application forms. Joint secretary of ministry of external affairs (passport services) Mukteshwar Kumar Pardeshi is likely to visit Darbhanga on Tuesday.
