Patna, Sept. 14: The Met department has ruled out any respite from the extreme sultry weather conditions prevailing in the city over the past week.

The common perception is that deficient rain is the primary reason. Weathermen claimed the flow of heavy moisture-bearing winds from southern to northern hemisphere, known as monsoon, has become extremely weak across the country.

Ashish Sen, director, India Meteorological Department (IMD), Patna, claimed cloud formation over Bihar is minimal owing to the weak cross-equatorial flow of winds. “As there is very less moisture and clouds in the troposphere, the penetration of solar rays are very high. High-level of solar penetration is leading to rise in day temperature,” said Sen.

When The Telegraph asked Sen if moisture incursion from the middle level of the troposphere was low, how could the relative humidity in Patna be 92 per cent at 8.30am today, he said: “Moisture incursion is still occurring in the lower level owing to flow of south-easterly winds from the Bay of Bengal.”

“The weather is bad these days. There was also a power cut last night. I could hardly study as I had to fan myself all the time,” said Shreya Shailendra, a Class VII student of Don Bosco Academy.

“There would not be any significant rainfall in the state over the next three to four days. Local thunderstorms are expected,” added Sen.
