Patna: A 24-year-old woman was killed allegedly for dowry at her house in Gondapur Choudhary Tola in Nawada on her fifth marriage anniversary on Thursday night, police said on Friday.

The deceased, Supriya Kumari alias Priyanka, was killed and her body was hanged allegedly by her husband Krishna Kumar Sudhakar and four other relatives on Thursday night. The police recovered the body on Friday morning after the deceased's father Arvind Kumar Choudhary informed the Nawada Town police.

Nawada Town police SHO Anjani Kumar said Arvind lodged an FIR alleging that his daughter was killed for dowry. "The in-laws were harassing her to fulfil their demand for dowry," Choudhary said in the FIR lodged on Friday.

The SHO said cops recovered the body and sent it to the Nawada sadar hospital for a post-mortem. "The post-mortem report is awaited," he said, adding that action would be taken on the basis of the report. Priyanka was married to Sudhakar, a resident of Gondapur Choudhary Tola, in 2013. The couple were staying in a rented house at Nawada and had a three-year-old son. "The couple used to quarrel over money as Sudhakar was jobless and was in bad company. The woman's father used to support the couple," a neighbour said.

The deceased's father, a resident of Pandey Tola under the jurisdiction of Narhat police station in Nawada, said he would fight for justice of his daughter. "My son in-law and other family members were harassing Priyanka for Rs 10 lakh cash and a car as dowry," he alleged.

The Nawada Town SHO said nobody was arrested in the case. All the four named accused were absconding after the incident. The neighbours told the police that they left the house late in the night and shifted to an unknown destination due to police action.
