The BJP is planning to use the discontent among Intermediate students by organising a padyatra on June 26 in Patna in support of the students. Senior party leaders, including state unit president Nityanand Rai, will take part in the programme.

"We intend to start this padyatra from the residence of Jayaprakash Narayan in the Kadamkuan locality and walk to the state secretariat to submit a memorandum to chief minister Nitish Kumar for looking into the demands of the aggrieved students," Rai told journalists on Wednesday.

The declaration of the Intermediate results last month has led to widespread discontent among students in Bihar as out of the 12 lakh examinees, over 8 lakh were declared unsuccessful.

Prior to this, party leaders have been issuing statements in favour of the aggrieved students. Also, two days back, BJP president Nityanand Rai had come up with 10 questions seeking reply from chief minister Nitish Kumar. Nitish, however, has not responded as yet.," said the BJP president.

Yogi event off

BJP president Nityanand Rai announced that the June 16 programme in Patna in which UP chief minister Yogi Adityanath was to take part, had been cancelled in the wake of polls for the Patna mayor scheduled for June 19.

Rai, however, clarified that Yogi will take part in a party programme at Darbhanga on June 15.

Party switch

Sunita Devi, who represented the Korha Assembly seat twice as a Congress MLA, joined the BJP on Wednesday. Rai was present on the occasion. Sunita is the daughter-in-law of late Congress leader late Dumar Lal Baitha. She had been denied a Congress ticket in 2015 Assembly elections and was sulking since then. Several of her supporters, who were earlier associated with the Congress organisation in Korha and adjoining areas, also joined the BJP.<>
