Patna: The Bihar BJP is working hard to strengthen its organisational set-up ahead of the 2019 elections.

The state unit is going to replicate the Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh units' concept of panna pramukh (page head) in which party workers are given responsibility to deal with voters mentioned in one or two pages of a particular polling booth.

"We are going to depute panna pramukhs in maximum number of polling booths as part of our strategy to reach out to maximum number of voters," said a Bihar BJP functionary, adding that the panna pramukhs would be in place by the end of the year.

The panna pramukhs are generally chosen from the members of the booth-level committees.

The Bihar BJP has set up committees at around 45,000 of the 62,780 polling booths in the state.

"We have set a target of having booth committees at all the booths, but even if we cross the 55,000 mark it would be a job well done," the Bihar BJP functionary said. "We are aiming to achieve this figure in the next two months."

A senior BJP leader who is a Bihar minister explained the strategy. " Panna pramukhs would be given the task of handling voters featuring on the page given to them. Apart from spreading the party's ideas among the target groups, these pramukhs would also be responsible for bringing those voters to the polling booth on election day."

The BJP leader said that the strategy had worked wonders for the party in Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh.

The BJP leader said the party had also set up around 10,000 " shakti kendras" - coordination centres for booth-level committees - in panchayats and urban areas.
