Patna, May 31: Bihar BJP president C.P. Thakur on Thursday claimed that the all-India strike sponsored by his party was a huge success and people joined it spontaneously.

“It was a spontaneous bandh by the people, who kept the shutters down to protest against the hike of petrol price. We appeal to the central government to roll back its decision. If it does not, the party (BJP) will continue to protest. We shall take our agitation to Parliament,” Thakur said.

BJP-led NDA coalition had announced the strike on May 24 to protest against the steepest-ever hike of petrol prices by Rs 7.50 per litre. Left parties too protested against the hike.

On Thursday, Thakur led an agitation march from the party office at 10am. He and other BJP workers and leaders courted arrest at Dakbungalow roundabout.

RJD on the other hand termed the bandh as “state-sponsored”.

The national general-secretary of the party, Ram Kripal Yadav, said the RJD would request the centre to roll back the petrol price hike.
