A 15-year-old student of a leading school in the city committed suicide on the intervening night of Monday and Tuesday at his rented house at the Pachkauri Sao Gali locality in West Lohanipur.
Aniket Kumar, a Class IX student of the Buddha Colony-based BD Public School, hung himself to death after scribbling a bilingual suicide note. “I am ending my life without any pressure, I love you and I miss everybody,” the note in English read. In Hindi, he wrote, “Main wapas aaunga (I will be back).”
His parents based at Ramgarh in Jharkhand, Aniket used to stay in the rented house with his elder brother Bunty. A graduation student of a Ramgarh-based college, Bunty was preparing for competitive exams staying in Patna.
The siblings hired two ground-floor rooms of Om Prakash’s house in the jurisdiction of Kadamkuan police. The landlord and his family stayed on the first-floor.
Aniket and Bunty went to Ramgarh last Wednesday. Bunty stayed back there for his graduation exam. The younger sibling returned to Patna alone on Sunday.
An officer of Kadamkuan police station said: “After the boy returned from home, he was a bit quiet.”
According to Om Prakash, Aniket used to store water every morning. When the landlord knocked on his door several times on Monday morning, Aniket did not respond.
“Suspecting Aniket was dead, Om Prakash called his father Pramod Kumar, a businessman. Pramod told Om Prakash to inform the police and hung up saying he was rushing to Patna. Accordingly, the landlord informed us. A team of police reached the spot within a few minutes, broke open the door and found Aniket hanging from a ceiling fan. He must have ended his life at night,” the officer said, adding the body had been sent for post-mortem.
Another officer of Kadamkuman police station said: “Right now, it is impossible to say anything on why the boy committed suicide. The statements of his family members would be very important. The boy might have been suffering from depression because of some family problems or a personal relationship going wrong. The police will also contact his school to know if he was regular in classes.”
The BD Public School authorities were clueless about Aniket’s suicide till The Telegraph got in touch with S.B Rai, the director of the institution.
Rai said: “It is a shocking incident. Our school has a morning and an evening shift. We will have to check in which shift Aniket studied. Sharing any information about his academic performance is not possible till we check the details.”
