Orchard yield target
• Patna: The agriculture department has set a target to improve productivity of fruit-bearing trees in 40 hectares of orchards in the current fiscal. Orchard owners of Bhagalpur, East Champaran, West Champaran, Muzaffarpur, Patna, Sheohar and Sitamarhi districts will benefit from this scheme, the department said on Sunday.
An amount of Rs 40,000 is expected to be spent for every hectare of orchard under this scheme, out of which Rs 20,000 will be provided to the orchard owner as assistance.
Three drown
• Patna: Three teenagers - 16 year olds Chintu Kumar, Marutnandan and Risbhav Kumar - drowned in the Sone river near Goriya Ghat at Koilwar in Bhojpur district. All three boys were from Naubatpur in Patna district.
Abduction
• Lakhisarai: Police on Saturday held three alleged abductors and rescued three persons from Madhya Pradesh who were held captive for ransom at Raniganj in Lakhisarai district. Police said the kidnappers had demanded Rs 15 lakh ransom for the release of the victims.
Electrocuted
• Sasaram: Engineering student Parvez Alam was electrocuted and 20 others suffered burn injuries when they came in contact with a high-voltage electric wire at Lodhipur village in Rohtas district on Sunday.
