Protest threat to fulfil demands

Patna: The Bihar Power Engineering Service Association (PESA), Patna, on Friday threatened that the association would be forced to take the path of demonstrations and protest if the Bihar State Power (Holding) Company Ltd does not heed to their demands.

PESA convener B.L. Yadav said the demands include opposition to the appointment of franchisee system, engineers through lateral entry and betrayal to the agreement reached between the government and the various unions as per which no coercive action would be taken against the protesting power employees who were participating in a demonstration against power holding on September 13. Yadav said the special general body meeting has been called on December 22 to discuss and decide the future course of action.

Concern for farmers

Patna: Former deputy chief minister and BJP leader Sushil Kumar Modi on Friday accused the state government of not doing enough for sugarcane growers in the state. He said while the government had taken several steps to provide succour to the sugar mills but it was doing nothing for the benefit of farmers and the procurement rate of sugar cane has not been increased.

Gadkari visit

Patna: Former BJP national president Nitin Gadkari would visit Bihar on December 23. He would be on a day visit to the state to address a meeting of in-charge of Assembly segments. Several senior leaders of the party including Sushil Kumar Modi and Nand Kishore Yadav would also take part in the programme.

Doctor dead

Patna: Eighty-year-old consultant radiologist and leading oncologist of Patna Dr Krishna Kumar Singh died on Thursday night at his residence in Kadamkuan.

Condolence meet

Patna: Indian Medical Association (IMA), Bihar state branch on Friday organised a meeting to condole the demise of Arun Kumar Sinha on the premises of the association building. Sinha was an orthopaedic surgeon and professor at the department of orthopaedic, Nalanda Medical College.

Youth rally

Patna: Bihar Pradesh Yuva Congress vice-president Kumar Ashish on Friday said the second phase of Youth Congress Apke Dwar would start from Gandhi Chowk, Hajipur on Saturday.

Workshop

Patna: Bihar Industries Association in collaboration with Apex Cluster Development Services Private Limited organised a sensitisation workshop on government schemes on Friday.

Restrain order

Patna: A high bench of Justice Mihir Kumar Jha on Friday restrained the acting vice-chancellor of BN Mandal University, Madhepura, from exercising financial and administrative powers except that of discharging routine work. The court passed the direction on a petition filed by J P N Jha and others challenging the acting VC’s decision to restrain the senior officials of the university- Pro VC, Finance officer and others- from discharging their duties.

Tennis tourney

Patna: The Power Grid Corporation inter-region table tennis tournament concluded on Friday.
