Buddha relics on display

gaya: The relics of Sakyamuni Buddha and his two principal disciples, Sariputta and Mahamoglana, were taken to the World Heritage Mahabodhi Mahavihara from Mahabodhi Society of India (MSI), Bodhgaya branch, in the form of a procession.

After prayers in the sanctum sanctorum of Mahavihara, the relics have been kept at Jayashree Mahavihara on the campus of MSI for the people.

The relics will be kept for public viewing till Monday. The relics have been kept to mark the seventh anniversary of Jayashree Mahavihara. Sanghdana (meal offering) was also offered on Sunday to Buddhist monks at the MSI branch. A cultural programme was organised on MSI campus on Sunday evening.

Workshop on soil health

patna: Greenpeace India would organise a national workshop titled “Biomass strategy for soil health and sustainable livelihood” on February 7. The workshop will bring key stakeholders of agriculture, bio-energy and rural sanitation from across the country and discuss a comprehensive biomass strategy to rejuvenate the degrading soil. Leading soil scientists of India would be present on the occasion. The event would be inaugurated by the agriculture minister.

Condolence

patna: A condolence meeting was held by the Anjuman-E-Najmi to mourn the death of their spiritual leader, Dr Syedna Mohammed Burhanuddin Saheb, in Patna on Sunday. Several prominent people like food and consumer protection minister Shyam Rajak, RJD MP Ram Kripal Yadav, surgeon Dr A.A. Hai and others were present on the occasion.

School fete

patna: International School celebrated a fete on Sunday. The event was inaugurated by Dr A.A. Hai by releasing pigeons and multi-coloured balloons. Dr Hai also released the next edition of the school magazine, The Quest, The principal of the school, F. Hasan, accompanied the guests to various stalls and magic show. Teachers and students of other public schools attended the fete.

TT tourney

patna: The 29th All India Postal Table Tennis Championship would be organised from February 3-7. The championship would be held at the Patliputra Sports Complex. The chief postmaster general, Brigadier G. Bhuwal, would inaugurate the event. Around 116 tennis players from 16 circles would take part in the event.

Mishra tribute

patna: The birth anniversary of former railway minister, late L.N. Mishra, was celebrated at several places in the city. Rural development minister Nitish Mishra offered floral tributes on the occasion, At the state Congress headquarters, Sadaquat Ashram, leaders held a seminar on the contribution of LN Mishra in the development of the state.

Nitish grief

patna: Chief minister Nitish Kumar has mourned the death of former MLA of Jhanjharpur, Devchand Jha, and expressed his condolence to the bereaved family. Jha was MLA from 1957 to 1962. The chief minister said Jha was a sensitive politician who worked for the welfare of the people of his constituency. He died on Sunday.
