Bribe slur on bank manager

Patna: Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) sleuths arrested the manager of a nationalised bank, Raju Srivastava, from Madhubani on Friday on the charge of taking bribe of Rs 22,500 from one Ashok Kumar for providing him loan.

Srivastava, posted at Araria Sangram (Jhanjharpur) branch of the Bank of India, had reportedly demanded Rs 45,000 from Kumar for sanctioning him loan amounting to Rs 9 lakh. Deputy inspector-general, CBI, Patna, B.K. Singh said the arrested bank manager would be produced before the special CBI court in Patna after interrogation. A case under relevant sections of Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 has been lodged against the banker with the CBI police station in the state capital.

Election review meet

Patna: Chief electoral officer Ajay V. Nayak on Friday held a meet through video conferencing with district electoral officers to review law and order situation and other poll related preparations in the state. A state election department source said things like live webcasting and use of video and digital camera during the poll also came up for discussion during the meet.

Inquiry order

Motihari: Motihari superintendent of police Vinay Kumar on Friday said a detailed inquiry would be conducted in a case of alleged thrashing of a junior engineer, Rahul Kishore Kumar, by some BJP leaders. An FIR in this regard was lodged four weeks after the incident took place on February 19. The junior engineer had approached senior police officials when the local cops had refused to lodge the FIR.

Voters’ proof

Patna: The state election department on Friday issued a press note stating that seven kinds of documents including passport, driving licence and PAN card can be used as ID proof for casting votes at graduate and teachers’ constituencies of the State Legislative Council for on March 23.

Contract issue

Patna: Former deputy chief minister and BJP leader Sushil Kumar Modi on Friday said the party would continue to raise the issues concerning contract teachers and those working in unaided educational institutions. He said the state government was treating them shabbily and they were getting less salary in comparison to the grade IV employees.

Fraud arrest

Buxar: A minor was arrested on Friday from Ahirauli village for duping a senior citizen of Rs 1,59,000 by using his account number and debit card password. The victim, Vinay Kumar, had shared his account number and password with the accused six months ago when he sought help to withdraw money from an ATM machine. Kumar filed an FIR after money went missing from his account. Police said the accused remembered the account number and password and used it to buy items online.

Shot dead

Patna: A teenager was shot dead on Friday afternoon in Patna City. The victim, identified as Mohammed Shibu (15), was a resident of the Loharwa Ghat. He had gone to the Miskatoli area where he was shot by unidentified persons.
