Criminal held in joint operations
Bagaha: Ram Chandra Bhagat, a criminal from Churiharwa village under the jurisdiction of Chautarwa police station of the district, was nabbed in a joint operation by Valmikinagar police and a Special Task Force team on Monday.
He was wanted in over 36 cases related to serious criminal offence in Bagaha, Kushinagar and Maharajganj districts of Uttar Pradesh. The last case was lodged against him in 2003. “He had been in hiding in Nepal,” said Bagaha superintendent of police Hari Prasad Yash.
Cultural event concludes
Kesariya: The three-day Kesariya Mahotsav, which was jointly inaugurated by commissioner of Tirhut division Narmedeshwar Lal, district magistrate Shridhar C. and East Champaran superintendent of police Vinay Kumar concluded on Monday. Cultural events and three-day free medical camp were organised during the function. A team of specialised doctors from PMCH, SKMCH and AIIMS-Delhi examined around 3,500 patients.
Rebel arrest
Aurangabad: Four hardcore Maoists were arrested and arms were seized from them during a raid at Katesar village in Aurangabad on Monday. Aurangabad superintendent of police Upendra Kumar Sharma said the arrested Maoists, including Jamadar Yadav, the husband of a panchayat head, were wanted in 21 cases of murder and three cases lodged under relevant sections of Explosive and Substance ActThe arrested Maoists reportedly confessed their involvement in the two landmine blasts in which the station house officer of Tandawa and five personnel of the special auxiliary police were killed.
Post diktat
patna: A high court division bench comprising Justice Navin Sinha and Justice Vikash Jain on Monday directed the government to fill up the remaining two vacant posts of information commissioners within two months and inform the court accordingly. The court passed the direction on a PIL filed by Nagrik Adhikar Manch through his counsel Dinu Kumar seeking direction to the government to fill up the remaining three vacant posts out of total posts of information commissioners in the state.
Suicide
patna: Ravi Kumar (42), a resident of Rajeev Nagar, committed suicide by hanging himself from the ceiling fan in a hotel located near Patna Junction on Monday. The police sent the body to Patna Medical College and Hospital for post-mortem.
PMC budget
patna: The empowered standing committee of Patna Municipal Corporation on Monday gave its nod to the draft of the civic body budget for the 2014-15 fiscal with a meagre surplus of Rs 60,014. According to the draft of the upcoming budget, the total expected revenue has been pegged at Rs 4,88,76,80,821. The expected expenditure has been pegged at Rs 4,88,76,20,807, thus making a surplus of Rs 60,014. The budget would now be tabled in the next meeting of PMC board scheduled on March 15.
Bail scam
patna: Police on Monday arrested five people, who were involved in making false bonds and had managed to get criminals out on bail. The police said the men used to operate in Patna Civil Court area for a long time.
