Bengal tourists robbed in Rajgir

Three tourists from Calcutta were stabbed and robbed of their belongings by a gang at Rajgir in Nalanda district, around 100km southeast of Patna, on Sunday.

Patna, Dec. 4: Three tourists from Calcutta were stabbed and robbed of their belongings by a gang at Rajgir in Nalanda district, around 100km southeast of Patna, on Sunday.

The incident occurred when tourists Rajesh Sao, Jainandan Sao and Abhinandan Sao had gone to visit the Vipulachal hills. Two youths, with faces covered, attacked them from behind and held them captive.

The robbers asked the tourists, said to be residents of Ekbalpur police station area in South 24 Parganas in Bengal, to hand over their cash, silver chains and mobile phones.

The robbers attacked them with knives when the victims refused to follow their diktats, causing minor stab injuries.

Nalanda superintendent of police Kumar Ashish said a complaint had been lodged with the Rajgir police station on the statement of the victims.

The superintendent of police said the gang involved in the crime has been identified and raids were on to apprehend the robbers.

"There is nothing to worry as the tourists are out of danger," he said.

The victims told the police that the three had come to attend a wedding at Niloma village in Nawada on Saturday. They fell victims to the gang when they had gone to visit Vipulachal hills today.

Rahul Sao, a member of the wedding party, told the police they had come to attend the marriage of Manoj Sao, a relative.
