Patna, May 7: Police today claimed to have nabbed four members of a gang involved in robbing Rs 50 lakh from a private bank in Muzaffarpur district on April 27.
The men in uniform pointed out that the gang members, identified as Jyoti alias Rakesh Ranjan, Baiju Kahar, Ranjit Kumar and Uday Kumar, were nabbed by a special team comprising personnel of Patna and Muzaffarpur police from near a school along Patna-Gaya road.
Patna senior superintendent of police (SSP) Manu Maharaaj said: "A sum of Rs 8 lakh was recovered from the men, who admitted to their role in the Muzaffar-pur dacoity."
"After the incident, all police stations of Patna had been asked to stay on alert and look out for criminals operating in areas under their jurisdiction. Muzaffarpur police kept in touch with us and shared information all the time. In October last year, criminals had looted Rs 1.49 lakh from a shop in Agamkuan. The sketches of suspects in the Agamkuan case matched with those involved in the Muzaffarpur dacoity. We received a tip-off about some men assembling near a school. A police team rounded up the group."
During interrogation, the men confessed that they worked for Ranjit Kumar, the gang leader. "While they admitted to their role in the dacoity, it also came to light that the gang had committed many more robberies in different districts of the state, including Patna. It is a major achievement for the police and they will be taken on remand for further interrogation," said the officer.
In another case, police nabbed one Bulkan Yadav, one of the most wanted on the police list.
The police said the man was involved in many serious criminal incidents, including several murders, and the state police headquarters was set to announce a reward for information, which led to his arrest.
Bulkan mainly operated in the Patna City area, the police said, adding that he had been nabbed from the Mughalpura area under the jurisdiction of Khajekalan police station.
