Bail blow for RJD chief

Jharkhand High Court on Friday refused to extend RJD chief Lalu Prasad's provisional bail, granted on May 11 for medical reasons, and directed him to surrender by August 30.

Ranchi: Jharkhand High Court on Friday refused to extend RJD chief Lalu Prasad's provisional bail, granted on May 11 for medical reasons, and directed him to surrender by August 30.

The court of Justice Aparesh Kumar Singh, while hearing a petition filed on Lalu's behalf, said Lalu, who is facing trial in fodder scam cases, should surrender at best by August 30 since his ailments could be taken care of at RIMS, Ranchi.

Lalu's counsel, the Supreme Court senior advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi, said the RJD chief was unwell with high blood sugar for which several of his organs had stopped functioning. Lalu, he said, had undergone major surgery in June this was still recovering.

CBI counsel Rajeev Kumar, however, contended that Lalu's ailment was not something that could not be managed at RIMS.
