Patna: The 17-year-old schoolgirl who was allegedly raped by 11 boys in Bagaha last week was on Thursday produced before the judicial magistrate in West Champaran district to record her statement under Section 164 of the CrPC.

Ramnagar sub-divisional police officer (SDPO) Kumar Singh said the girl corroborated the charge levelled against her senior, also a minor, and his 10 other friends. She will be be sent to the government hospital at Bagaha on Friday for medical examination.

The girl told the court that she was raped in a farm field while returning home from school during lunch break on July 10 to take money for filling up forms for an examination. She shouted for help but nobody came to her rescue as the place was desolate.

The rapists fled when she fainted.

She couldn't report the incident to the police as the accused had threatened her with dire consequences and asked her not to reveal the incident to anybody. But her ordeal came to the fore after she stopped going to school.

On being pressed by her parents for an explanation, she narrated what had happened. Her parents formally reported the incident to the police on Tuesday. The girl lodged a formal FIR with the Bagaha Women's police against her senior and 10 others. She could recognise one of her tormentors and, in her complaint, disclosed his identity.

The SDPO said efforts were on to ascertain the identity of other offenders. A minor boy, who passed his Class X from the same school where the girl was studying, has already been taken into custody and sent to a reform centre (remand home) for boys.

He confessed to the crime and claimed he had established a physical relationship with the Class X student.

"For the last 15 days she was pressuring me to marry her. As my family had not approved her proposal for marriage, she lodged a police complaint on Wednesday," he told interrogators.

An investigating officer said the main accused belonged to the Tharu tribe. The main accused, stated to be a resident of Garkatti village under the jurisdiction of Bagaha police station, was taken into custody within 10 hours of lodging of the police complaint.

This is the second incident of mass-rape of a schoolgirl in the past fortnight. Earlier this month, a Class X student of a private school in Saran had alleged that she was sexually assaulted by 18 persons, including the principal and two teachers of the institution.
