Tarumitra, a non-government organisation, held an awareness drive at Patna Medical College and Hospital on Tuesday on the quality of drinking water.

Around 30 students from St Xavier's College (Patna), Pune University and National Law University (Jaipur) cleaned the taps near the hospital's emergency wing. Bhawana Priya, a student from National Law University, said people must check their tap water in a reputable lab before investing money in a water purifier.

The Tarumitra team collected water samples from 20 localities. Tarumitra coordinator Devopriya Dutta said water was tested under 17 parameters and was found to contain all the necessary minerals such as magnesium, calcium, nitrate, salt in permissible limits.

App for elders

Non-government organisation HelpAge India launched a security app - Save Our Seniors (SOS) - at the Bihar Industry Association hall on Tuesday on the occasion of World Elder Abuse Awareness Day.

The Bihar and Jharkhand head of the organisation, Girish Chandra Mishra said: "The app is currently functional only on Android phones. Through this app, senior citizens can directly contact counsellors and with the local police, hospital or old age homes in emergency situations."
