A select group of officers of the state's anti-terrorism squad (ATS) would hone their blast investigation skills in Gujarat - the home state of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
A source in the state police headquarters said six officials of ATS's first batch, including an inspector-general, deputy inspector-general, superintendent of police and deputy superintendent of police, have been selected for the training at the Gujarat Forensic Sciences University (GFSU) in Gandhinagar. Inspector-general (headquarters) Kundan Krishnan, who is also heading the state ATS, said: 'The officials will take lessons from the forensic experts of the varsity on post-blast investigations.'
The state's elite force - ATS - was constituted after the serial blasts at Gandhi Maidan in Patna on October 28, 2013, just before Prime Minister Modi addressed a rally. He was the Gujarat chief minister then.
GFSU director-general J.M. Vyas said the officers from Bihar would undergo training between March 23 and March 27. The varsity director, M.D. Dahiya, said the Bihar ATS officials would be imparted both theoretical as well as practical training on explosives.
'We shall train them on explosives, which will help them analyse a post-blast scene and probe the crime effectively,' he said, claiming that GFSU was the only university across the world dedicated to forensic and investigative science.
